Economic impact
As the seventh-largest wheat producer in the United States, Nebraska is a big player in the international grains market. And that means wheat contributes a significant amount to the state’s economy.
In 2007 alone, Nebraska’s wheat production of 84 million bushels was valued at more than $500 million. But the impact stretches beyond that. The wheat industry supports a myriad of jobs statewide, and each dollar in agricultural exports—of which wheat is included—generates approximately $1.64 in economic activities such as transportation, financing, warehousing, and production.
